The Yorkshire Vintage association was set up by committee members of the East Yorkshire, West Yorkshire and Pennine Groups of the National Vintage Tractor and Engine Club. The three groups had been holding their own summer rallies and events but were struggling to attract visitors and exhibitors alike. After quite a few informal meetings and discussions between the three groups the idea was put forward to combine the efforts of the groups of the NVTEC to put on one big summer rally.
The first rally was held on September 2nd & 3rd 2006 on the Tockwith Show Field. The event was plagued by a very wet weekend, however it proved that the idea was right, but just needed developing. Several committee members voiced their opinions that the event needed to be earlier in the year and due to us being unable to use the Tockwith Show Field earlier in the year, and other reasons as well, the hunt was on for another site for the rally. In late November 2006 negotiations started with Newby Hall as a possible site for our rally, following a meeting of the committee with the opening administrator at Newby Hall the decision was made to hold the 2007 rally at Newby Hall on the 9th & 10th June. We were approached by the Ford and Fordson Association and Kelsey Publishing shortly afterwards who were looking for a venue for their Ford and Fordson Expo show for 2007. We agreed to let them hold their expo at the rally in return for much needed publicity for the event. The 2007 rally was a great success although there were still a few gremlins to iron out, the committee were pleased by comments received from both exhibitors and public alike.
We are greatly indebted to Newby Hall and their staff who provide us with a great site for our rally and make us feel very welcome.
